Jamey Matte

Jamey Matte is a native of Gloster, Mississippi and a recent graduate from Mississippi State University (MSU) with a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration. Ms. Matte worked with the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement (SLCE) since 2010, which has provided her with valuable experience in service project coordination and volunteer management.

In addition, Ms. Matte served at the Service-Learning Graduate Coordinator for SLCE’s Day One Leadership Community. During that time, Ms. Matte was the principal liaison and manager for community partners in the Golden Triangle Region (GTR) and creating new service-learning opportunities for MSU Day One students. As an incredibly self-motivated individual, she took the initiative to improve the current system of working with community partners by creating procedures for developing community partnerships and service projects. She also has coached community agencies not well versed with managing volunteers and has taught them how to manage volunteers efficiently and effectively. Overall, she has created twenty-three new community-based partnerships for the Day One Leadership Community in addition to managing continued existing partnerships with over forty community agencies within GTR. Not only have her efforts created meaningful partnerships with agencies located in GTR, but have also increased awareness and participation for many community initiatives.

Ms. Matte also has experience with transforming concepts into tangible experiences. Volunteering to work with the Maroon Volunteer Center to create an Alternative Spring Break experiential-learning trip in the Mississippi Delta region for MSU students, she took a vague concept and created a 6-day experiential learning immersion. This experience provided students with a deeper understanding of the Mississippi Delta region through service projects and educational/cultural activities.

Ms. Matte’s major responsibilities as the director of Volunteer Starkville include:

  • Center management and operations
  • Providing local agencies with volunteer needs
  • Organizing workshops for agencies and volunteer leadership
  • Promoting local nonprofits and volunteerism
  • Coordinating Service Day events: MLK Day (Jan 17), 9/11, National Volunteer Week.

Lacy Jaudon

Lacy Jaudon is a native of Batesville, MS, and a recent graduate of Mississippi University for Women (MUW) with a degree in social sciences and a women’s studies minor. Her leadership and community service experience with the Hearin Leadership Program at MUW sparked her passion for service.

Ms. Jaudon is working with Volunteer Starkville through the AmeriCorps VISTA Program. VISTA stands for Volunteers in Service to America. VISTAs dedicate a full year of service to organizations and programs that fight to eliminate poverty through literacy programs, food pantries, GED preparation programs, and many others. Ms. Jaudon will be working with local nonprofit agencies and their beneficiaries to improve the resources and programs available to the impoverished in the Starkville area. She will also implement a new mentoring program connecting students at Mississippi State University (MSU) with students at local schools. Ms. Jaudon states why she chose to become a VISTA: “I want to live a life of service. If we believe that the best we can do is to alleviate or lessen poverty, then that’s the best that we’re going to do. But, if we believe that we can eliminate poverty, then that higher goal can be achieved. Through VISTA, I have an opportunity to change lives within a community that I have quickly grown to love.”

We are excited and pleased to have Ms. Jaudon on board with us for the next year (August 2012 – July 2013) and look forward to serving the Starkville community with her. Her dedication to service and excitement about making a difference among the impoverished in the Starkville community makes her a fantastic addition to Volunteer Starkville’s staff.

Ms. Jaudon’s major responsibilities as the Volunteer Coordinator of Volunteer Starkville include:

  • Providing local agencies with volunteer needs
  • Promoting local nonprofits and volunteerism
  • Connecting local nonprofits with appropriate programs to citizens living in poverty
  • Creating a financial literacy mentoring program for local high school students
  • Coordinating Service Day events: MLK Day (Jan 17), 9/11, National Volunteer Week.
